LAURENCE WOOD

ART WORK

LAURENCE WOOD’S recent paintings were induced through living, working and travelling in South East Asia during the past two years. These new works have emerged with a formal simplification, cryptic content, and increased focus on the expressive potential of colour.

His creative work is often inspired by aspects of particular places that engage him. They are essentially poetic with layers of thought-provoking imagery, shape, colour and gesture. Many find origin within urban or industrial ‘edgelands’, landscaped gardens, fishing ponds, the artists home or studio, or they might explore contemporary themes. Some current paintings contain figures and the thematic opportunities they provide alongside emblematic forms derived from recent travelling
